What does abundance mean to you? What aspects of life would you like to have an abundance of—money, time, love, adventures?
Have you ever tried applying the Law of Attraction (LOA) but found it unsuccessful in bringing you the things you desired most?
Many individuals believe they understand how the LOA works simply because they have read the book or watched the video “The Secret” at some point in the past. There is nothing inherently wrong with “The Secret,” but if you don’t delve deeper and truly comprehend its teachings, you may mistakenly believe that all you need to do is visualise what you desire, and it will magically manifest in your life.
However, in reality, anything truly significant or powerful in life is rarely that straightforward. I’m not suggesting that the Law of Attraction is complex; in fact, it’s quite simple. However, holding the belief that you can daydream about something and have it effortlessly drawn into your life is akin to magical thinking.
I have found great inspiration from influential figures like Abraham-Hicks and Nick Breau, who have served as my personal gurus. In fact, I had the wonderful opportunity to receive personal coaching from Nick Breau, which has had a profound impact on me.
A Spiritual Coach can help you develop an awareness of what you are unintentionally attracting into your life and guide you in making the necessary changes.
Misconceptions about the Law of Attraction: Debunking Common Myths
The Law of Attraction encompasses a profound depth that extends beyond superficial understanding. Lets go through some misconceptions.
You Can Decide If and When to use the Law
First and foremost, it is important to recognise that the law of attraction is always at work and is not selective in its operation. It is not a matter of it sometimes working and sometimes not, nor is it solely active when you consciously utilise it
Whether you realise it or not, you are always in the process of shaping your reality.
The crucial distinction lies in whether you are manifesting consciously or unconsciously. The key question is: Are you predominantly selecting thoughts and emotions that empower you to attract more of what you desire, or are you unintentionally attracting more of what you don’t want.
Becoming conscious of what you are unconsciously manifesting and learning how to alter that is where a Spiritual Coach can provide valuable assistance.
Visualisations: A Useful Tool but not Paramount
Secondly, it’s important to recognise that merely making a wish and visualising it is not the sole aspect of this process. In fact, for some individuals, it may not even be essential. Your desires naturally emerge within you, even if you don’t explicitly state or write them down. Life inherently guides you toward preferences, causing you to lean towards certain outcomes over others.
Engaging in visualisations solely for the purpose of attracting specific outcomes or worse, at the same time, harbouring resentment for not yet having what you desire, can have adverse effects. In fact, according to Abraham Hicks, it is advised to visualise only when you feel genuinely inspired to do so, rather than as a deliberate action solely aimed at attracting something into your life. This implies that the inspiration to visualise itself is an integral part of the manifestation process.
Unconscious Beliefs Are Probably Holding You Back
Thirdly, and perhaps the most vital aspect in my opinion, resides within your core beliefs concerning life, your own worth, and the specific subject under consideration. These beliefs serve as the foundation for your thoughts and emotions throughout each day. Recognising and transforming any limiting beliefs into more empowering ones is where the guidance of a Spiritual Coach becomes invaluable. Their expertise enables them to help you identify these beliefs and adeptly reframe them, enabling you to adopt more empowering perspectives and embrace profound personal growth.
Some may argue that it is because we are here to explore, discover, and enjoy life. However, I believe there is a deeper significance to it. In the process of manifesting our desires, we must release outdated beliefs and limitations, and come to the realisation what the Universe or a higher power has always intended for us – to understand that we are interconnected with the divine. We are an expression of God or the Universe, in whichever way you prefer to perceive it.
The Truth about Strong Desires and Manifestation
Fourthly, it is important to note that while maintaining a strong, almost desperate desire may occasionally accelerate the manifestation process, more often than not, it can lead to disastrous effects. At best, it may hinder the attainment of what you truly desire, but at worst, it could attract the desired outcome into your life with accompanying sorrow instead of joy. In such cases, the purpose may be to teach you that you already possess everything within you and that external manifestations are not essential for your fulfilment.
There is a Perfectly Logic Reason
Fifthly, it is essential to understand that the law of attraction operates on principles grounded in logic and reason. It is not a mystical or magical phenomenon. In the upcoming section, we will delve into a detailed and logical explanation of how this law functions.
For the Skeptics
It is not uncommon for critics of the law to base their judgments on limited exposure, often stemming from merely reading “The Secret” or hearing about it from non-experts. It is understandable that a logical person would find it irrational and akin to magical thinking to believe that simply making a wish would set the wheels in motion for their desires to manifest.
However, the law of attraction does not operate in such a simplistic manner.
To illustrate this point, let’s consider an example. My nephew embarked on the search for his first car and had a particular interest in a specific model. Suddenly, he began noticing this car model everywhere he went.
Do you believe that these cars spontaneously materialized because my nephew wished for one? Were the drivers of those cars magically compelled to drive towards him simply because he visualized himself owning and driving one?
No, certainly not!
There is a logical explanation behind it all
As some of you may be aware, our minds are unable to process the vast amount of data and sensory input it constantly receives. This includes the multitude of sounds, sights, people, events, and information that surrounds us on a daily basis. To help us manage this overwhelming influx of information, our brain has a filtering system called the Reticular Activating System (RAS). The RAS functions by selectively deleting, distorting, and generalizing incoming data, making it more manageable for us to absorb and comprehend.
What determines which information gets through the RAS and how it is processed is influenced by various factors such as our sense of identity, values, core beliefs, personal needs, and automatic responses stemming from our upbringing and societal conditioning.
In essence, what reaches our conscious awareness is ultimately shaped by these factors and the filtering mechanisms of the RAS.
In the previous example, once my nephew had narrowed down his desire for a particular car model, that specific model became more prominent in his conscious awareness due to its alignment with his focused intention. As a result, the Reticular Activating System (RAS) allowed information related to that specific model to pass through more easily compared to other car models.
By narrowing down his desire and directing his attention towards a specific outcome, my nephew effectively influenced the filtering process of the RAS. This demonstrates how our conscious intentions and focused thoughts can shape the information that becomes more readily available to us, enhancing our ability to notice and attract circumstances and opportunities that align with our desires.
Let’s consider an alternative scenario. Imagine that two separate individuals have the task of assembling some garden furniture. Now, consider that these two individuals who are equally inexperienced in such a task hold different beliefs and expectations regarding the job and their abilities.
The first person believes that they are prone to making mistakes, expects the task to be challenging, feels the pressure of doing it alone, and lacks confidence due to their lack of experience. As soon as they encounter the first difficulty, it reinforces their existing beliefs, amplifying negative emotions and making them more prone to further errors or overlooking crucial steps. Ultimately, they may give up or make a critical mistake that hinders their progress.
On the other hand, the second person also lacks experience but approaches challenges with enthusiasm. They believe that they generally succeed in their endeavours, anticipate the task to be challenging but manageable, and look forward to the satisfaction of completing the project before the family returns home to enjoy it. When this person faces a difficulty, they perceive it as a minor obstacle. They find joy in each step they successfully complete, which fuels their confidence and propels them towards accomplishing the entire project.
What makes the difference between these two individuals, despite their equal lack of experience? It lies in their beliefs, expectations, mindset, and attitude towards challenges. These factors shape their perception, emotions, and ultimately their ability to navigate and succeed in the task at hand.
